Eric Bowman was born in Pasadena and grew up in Orange County, California. Essentially a self-taught artist, he had a knack for drawing as far back as he can remember. As a vocation, art was not directed by a clear-cut path but instead became an exercise of entering open doors to artistic opportunity. Although freelancing as a commercial artist kept him self-employed for many years, it wasn’t until a chance meeting with two prominent California painters in 1999 that Bowman experienced a major shift in his worldview of art that set him on a new journey into fine art painting.
Since that time, he has developed a unique style and approach that continues to evolve through self-education and exploration. Bowman believes in the timeless philosophy of truth and beauty, deriving inspiration from sources both contemporary and historic that reflect the standard of high art from a century ago.
The recipient of numerous awards and recognitions, Bowman’s paintings reside in private and corporate collections around the world and have been featured in national magazines such as Art of the West, International Artist, Pratique des Arts, PleinAir, and Southwest Art. He is a Signature Member of the American Impressionist Society and a Signature Member of the California Art Club. When not painting on location in various parts of the West or teaching an occasional workshop, he resides with his wife and daughter in northwestern Oregon.
Eric Bowman is represented by Astoria Fine Art, Jackson, Wyoming; Maxwell Alexander Gallery, Los Angeles, California; Medicine Man Gallery, Tucson, Arizona; and Mockingbird Gallery, Bend, Oregon.
